Carles Alena: 'We can't blame Levante loss exclusively on rotation'
- The La Masia graduate was on the field for full 90 minutes against Levante
- Alena admits that the team 'played bad' against tenacious La Liga side and rotation is not an excuse for that
- Alena is hoping to turn the tie around in the second leg at the Camp Nou
Ernesto Valverde has decided to give rest to five first-team players against Levante, with Carles Alena filling in for Ivan Rakitic in the midfield. Despite Barca suffering a 2-1 away loss, the newly-promoted to the first team midfielder has left a positive impression.

He, however, has been highly critical for the team's performance in the Copa del Rey clash, saying that they can't put the blame on rotation.
"It's important to start well and be focused from the beginning in these type of games, but we went out asleep and we paid quickly for that," the midfielder admitted in the post-match interview.
"You can tell we've not played games together, but we train every day and we know each other. It's not an excuse. The reality is we didn't play well. Rotations aren't an excuse.
"We didn't play well, but there are 90 minutes left in the tie and, without doubt, the game [at Camp Nou] will be long for Levante," concluded Alena.
Carles Aleñá has barely even been promoted yet but he’s already being played in three different positions, RCM, RW and F9, and even the infamous Messi-when-Barça-are-shit-all-the-way-down-at-DM-next-to-Busquets.— La Masia (@Youngcules) January 10, 2019
Props to him and to Valverde for the confidence. Awesome stuff.
Blaugrana lost the first leg of the Copa del Rey round of 16 tie 2-1. The second leg will be played at the Camp Nou on January 17. Barcelona need to win 1-0 or with a two-goal difference in order to advance to the next round.
