Busquets 'confident' Coutinho will help Barca to reach their objectives this season
- Sergio Busquets admits the competition for places is high at Barcelona with the Brazilian starting last four La Liga game from the bench
- He, however, believes that Coutinho will still help Barca going forward in the season
- Coutinho is reported to be unhappy with the amount of playing time he receives at the Camp Nou and has been linked with a move away from the club
Barca lost the first leg of the Copa del Rey round of 16 tie 2-1 to Levante, with their sole goal being Coutinho's penalty. Blaugrana need to win the second leg 1-0 or with a two-goal difference in order to advance to the next round.
Despite the goal that gives Barca a workable result in the tie, Coutinho's performance has been largely underwhelming. Sergio Busquets, however, trusts the Brazilian to improve and help the Catalans going forward in the season.
"Everyone wants to play. There's tough competition here. There are a lot of midfielders and only three positions. It's difficult to come into the side, too, when you've not been playing and you have less confidence and rhythm.
"But I believe that Philippe is going to help us in what's left of the season."
The bottom line is, Coutinho just looks like a player extremely low on confidence. He's not a bad player, we know that. He's just nowhere near his best right now.— TalkFCB (@FCBNewsRoom) January 10, 2019
Coutinho has started last four of Barcelona La Liga games from the bench after losing the competition to Ousmane Dembele in attack and Arturo Vidal in the midfield. The reports about his potential departure are multiple.
On Thursday, a shocking rumour about Coutinho-Neymar swap deal has emerged. Highly reputable British source Evening Standard claimed that Barca are allegedly going to sell Coutinho in summer which would fund their potential pursuit of their prodigal son, Neymar. While on Wednesday it was suggested that the Red Devils might be planning to bring Philippe Coutinho back to England already this January.
Coutinho is badly out of form at the moment. Let’s not forget though that we’re talking about an absolute world class player, the problem for him is that he’s being managed by someone who hasn’t been able to find a suitable role for him.— De ara Torres (@dearatorres) January 10, 2019
It remains to be seen how the story will develop but the Brazilian's situation at Barca is increasingly alarming even a potential transfer aside.
