Could Kevin-Prince Boateng emulate Henrik Larsson at Camp Nou?
Chiranjib Ghosh of the Everything Barca compares the latest Barca signing to ex-Blaugrana striker questioning the Ghanian ability to follow in the legendary Swede's footsteps at Camp Nou.
Boateng has been given an opportunity to prove his critics wrong once and forever just as Larsson did
"When Barcelona signed the 33-year old Henrik Larsson on a free transfer from Celtic, the legendary Swedish centre-forward had been written off, after having spent almost a decade at the top. But he proved critics wrong and became a legend at the Camp Nou.
"Barça’s new signing, Kevin-Prince Boateng, has the potential to emulate Larsson. The Ghanaian striker’s career has full of ups-and-downs but his time at the top has been declared as over. This is Boateng’s opportunity to prove the naysayers wrong."
The Ghanian possesses a wider skill set than Larsson and could be deployed both in midfield and attack becoming 'the ultimate super sub' for the Blaugrana
"Larsson and Boateng share a few common traits. Both these players work extremely hard on the pitch, have an excellent range of passing and are highly aware of the positioning of their teammates. Both players are very creative and have many assists to their name.
"The main point of difference between Larsson and Boateng is their positioning. While the former Feyenoord striker played as a traditional centre-forward his whole career, Boateng has played in various positions but is not an out-and-out striker.
"So, Larsson’s finishing skills are obviously better than Boateng’s. But Kevin-Prince Boateng has the ability to be the next Henrik Larsson in the sense that he can act as the ultimate super sub, coming on in pressure situations and powering through the game effectively."
Has Kevin-Prince matured enough to change his attitude?
"But the problem may be with Boateng’s attitude. While Henrik Larsson received just 12 yellow cards and a single red card in his career spanning 17 years, Kevin-Prince Boateng has already received 91 yellow cards and 12 red cards in 14 years in the top-flight.
"In the process of working hard, Boateng makes some rash tackles and gets into arguments with match officials frequently. His indiscipline might make him difficult to control. But if he can play clean and remain fit, Kevin-Prince Boateng can become the successor to Henrik Larsson."
Will Boateng succeed at Barca?
