Ernesto Valverde names 3 versions of Barcelona line-up without Jordi Alba
- According to the coach, Juan Miranda and Thomas Vermaelen could replace Alba on the left flank of our backline.
- Additionally, there is an option to play with three centre-backs.
Barcelona face Sevilla in the quarter-final of the Copa del Rey and Ernesto Valverde usually rotates his squad during the Cup games. The only player who doesn't have a proper backup is Jordi Alba but the coach knows who can help the left-back get some rest:
"We can play [Juan] Miranda, [Thomas] Vermaelen can play as left back or we can play with three centre-backs," Valverde said at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
vermaelen🙈 because we dont need pace at the left side omg. how has this guy managed to stay at barca so long— sam bender (@sam_the_van) January 22, 2019
This season Barcelona have used 11 different defenders: Pique, Umtiti, Lenglet, Alba, Semedo, Roberto, Murillo, Chumi, Cuenca, Miranda and Vermaelen. Four centre-backs Pique, Lenglet, Vermaelen and Murillo are likely to make the squad for the game at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and the coach might use them for the 3-at-the-back formation.
"Our analysis was based on the fact that they are a strong rival at home and in the knock-out ties they have always been very solvent," the boss added regarding our opponents. "They are a team that have also taken steps into the competition."
How should we line-up against Sevilla?
