Local source: Lyon name their asking price for Barca top target Mendy
- According to Paris United Lyon want 35-40m euros for the left-back.
- Finding a left-back is one of the main tasks for Barcelona in summer with Jordi Alba having no backup.
According to the report by respectable French news outlet Paris United, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is willing to let Barcelona target Ferland Mendy go in the summer for a fee of 35m-40m euros.
Mendy is Barcelona's priority for the coming summer transfer market as they identified him as a perfect backup and future replacement for Jordi Alba. The club's director of football Eric Abidal is personally interested in signing the 23-year-old French full-back as he believes that the physically strong defender who excels both in defence and attack would be a perfect addition to the Catalans' squad.
Abidal himself has arrived in Barcelona from Lyon being the team's academy graduate and Mundo Deportivo suggests that the former player remains on good terms with the French club's board. This relationship might play a crucial role in the potential transfer of Mendy who is often being compared with Abidal because of the similar playing style.
The 23-year-old has a contract with his current club until 2022 but his performances could well see him leave before that expires. For now, Barça are tracking his progress.
Take a look at Mendy's 2018/19 stats (via WhoScored):
The left-back has recently admitted he doesn't have a favourite club. “Honestly, I do not have a dream club…today, I'm at Olympique Lyonnais, I'm fine here,” Mendy said in an interview with Telefoot. “I'm thinking about completing the season here with the club, with my team-mates and giving everything until the end of the year.
At the very least, Barca ill get another chance to have a close look at Mendy, as they face Lyon in the Champions League round of the last 16.
According to Mundo Depotivo, the Blaugrana also have two alternatives in Filipe Luis and Junior Firpo in case the Frenchman's transfer falls through.
