Rakitic is 'content' despite Athletic draw: 'Now we have a calm week'
- There are now just six points separating Barca and second-placed Real Madrid.
- The Croatian remains calm: 'We always knew that the season is a long one.'
- He also highlights the importance of having some rest in light of the crucial games approaching.
Barcelona are yet to register a win in February: they have already drawn three matches in a row. The most recent stalemate against Athletic Club saw the Catalans failing to score in La Liga for the first time in the whole YEAR. They have also allowed Real Madrid to swap places with Atletico and sit just six points behind the leaders.
Nevertheless, Barcelona veteran midfielder Ivan Rakitic remains 'content' with the goalless draw in Bilbao. Marca quote the Croatian as saying: "We always knew that the season is a long one. We are content. We lacked a little precision with the final pass, but this team is hungry."
Rakitic also highlights the importance of having some rest given their hectic schedule: "Now we have a calm week and then we'll be on top in the coming games. With all respect to Real Madrid and Atletico, we need to just focus on ourselves. What we've been doing up to now has been really good. We're top of the table and have to continue."
For the first time since early January, the Catalans won't have to play a midweek fixture as they only re-start their Champions League campaign with a trip to Olympique Lyon on 19 February. They host Valladolid in La Liga on Saturday, 16 February. They also have to face Sevilla and Real Madrid away on 23 February and 2 March respectively.
