Performance innovation team director reveals the secret behind Messi's phenomenal agility
- Messi's natural gift, ability and skill is what makes the Argentine so special
- Performance innovation team director Craig Friedman opens up on what makes the 32-year-old special
- 'His rate of force development is very high', Craig admits, attributing it to Argentinean's power-to-weight ratio
While it is Messi's natural gift, ability and skill that make him such a complete and literally impeccable football player, yet we shouldn't forget his talent, born and bred.
Performance innovation team director at Athletes' Performance Craig Friedman has some explanation to make talking about Messi's speed and agility:
"First you have to be explosive and powerful," Friedman told ESPN. "Then, you have to be stable enough through your ankles, hips and torso to be able to deliver that power efficiently into the ground. And finally, you have to deliver the power into the ground in the right direction, and that's where technique comes in."

Well, technical prowess and speed aside Messi seems to embrace all of the above:
"He's a small guy," Friedman continues, "but his rate of force development is very high and his power-to-weight ratio is just ridiculous."
