Strikers wishlist continues to shrink: Bayern to sign Nicolas Pepe
- Bayern are in pole position to sign Pepe.
- Their representatives have had talks with Lille.
- The price is expected to be around €80 million.
According to Fussball Transfers, Bayern Munich directors have recently travelled to France to meet with the representatives of Lille forward Nicolas Pepe. The Germans believe that the contract negotiations are going to be quite easy but they will have to pay around €80 million for the transfer.
The 23-year-old diverse striker is a revelation of the Ligue 1 season 2018/19. He has scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists in 32 league games so far. Pepe's most recent goal came in the 51st minute of Lille's PSG destruction. The 2nd-placed side have defeated the reigning champions 5-1 at home delaying the Paris team's title celebration.
Pepe is reportedly being watched by Barcelona as well. The Catalans continue their search for Luis Suarez's heir and the Ivorian forward is believed to be among the players who have impressed Barca scouts the most. However, with Bayern being in pole position to sign Pepe it seems that Barcelona will have to look elsewhere.
The problem is that there are not too many high-quality strikers available on the market. It has recently been reported that Barcelona are no longer pursuing Luka Jovic as they do not want to participate in an auction for the player. Besides, the Catalans are not 100% confident that the Serbian is a perfect match for the club and the Blaugrana style.
Who should be signed by Barca?
