Bartomeu: 'Griezmann is not on the table'
- Blaugrana chief rejects recent rumours linking the Frenchman with yet another Blaugrana move.
- He says: "Griezmann is not on the table and he has not called Barcelona."
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu breaks silence on the Catalans' alleged pursuit of Antoine Griezmann. There were rumours that the Frenchman allegedly regrets his summer's decision to reject the Catalan giants and stay at Atletico Madrid after the Rojiblancos have lost any chances for a silverware this season.
Bartomeu, however, strongly denies these claims, as quoted by Marca: "[Griezmann] is an Atletico Madrid player and he has a contract [with them]. I like that the great players are in Spain because he gives value to LaLiga Santander [which helps], for example, to get sponsors. If Griezmann wanted to come, he would have to talk to the coaches, but his name is not on the table. There is a lot of speculation in the press, but Griezmann is not on the table and he has not called Barcelona."
Ten days ago, Griezmann made the first appearance at Barcelona's home ground since rejecting the club's offer in summer 2018 and was welcomed with whistles and boos from the fans. The forward filmed a video announcement titled 'La Decision' where he explained the reasons behind snubbing Barca. Looks like Blaugranas are not a very forgiving public...
This spring several reports emerged claiming that the French striker regrets his decision and wants to join Barca in summer 2019. The club seemingly have no intention of signing Griezmann because he is not the kind of player Barca are looking for. They are likely to focus on pursuing Eintracht Frankfurt's Luka Jovic who is a more traditional number 9.
