Tebas: 'Messi is the best player in La Liga history'
- Messi has been recognized by an award for his La Liga achicementsbut skipped the ceremony.
- League president Tebas understands his decision given the circumstances.
- He adds that Leo is the best player in La Liga history and there will never be a player like him.
On Tuesday La Liga celebrated the 90th anniversary since its founding with the gala event being held at the RCDE Stadium. People who played a big role in the league's history have been recognized by awards.
One of these was given to Lionel Messi, who skipped the event. La Liga president, Javier Tebas isn't holding it against Leo, however.
"He's been a little bit affected by what's happened in these last few days," Tebas said.
"I don't think he's leaving Barcelona.
"He's the best player in LaLiga [Santander]'s history and deserves a lifetime homage. There'll never be anyone like him again."
Lionel Messi is wrapping up the 2018/2019 campaign as the best goalscorer in Spain and Europe on the whole. His staggering figures mean he could scoop two more individual awards when the season ends.

In La Liga, Messi has scored 34 goals which is 13 more than his 'closest rivals', fellow teammate Luis Suarez and long-time rival Karim Benzema. The duo are joint-second with 21 goals.
Messi is now set to win his 7th Pichichi Trophy and equal legendary Telmo Zarra for most all time.
As for European Golden Shoe, Messi is still on the direct course to scoop this award. With 34 goals, he is four goals ahead of his closest rival, Paris Saint-Germain marksman, Kylian Mbappe. If the Argentinean enjoys a prolific day against Eibar on Sunday afternoon, he could wrap up this accolade for a record-breaking sixth time.
Despite the Champions League disappointment, Messi remains in the pole position to snatch the 2019 Ballon d'Or due to his enormous contribution. The Argentinean has scored 48 goals in all competitions this season. He has already won the 2018/2019 La Liga title and could snatch the domestic double on May 25 with the Copa del Rey win over Valencia.
