De Ligt provides pessimistic update on his future
- It was reported he would announce his decision on May 15.
- However, he could only say that nothing has been finalised yet.
- De Ligt: "We will see where I am at the end of the summer."
Ajax have just been crowned Eredivisie champions, however, the local press is mostly focused on the potentially departing stars, including the club's captain, Matthijs de Ligt. Multiple reports claim that the Dutchman sealed an agreement with Barcelona already last month, on April 12.
No wonder that De Ligt gets asked about the much-talked-about Barcelona move. Unfortunately, there is nothing he could add, as quoted by Fox Sports: "I can’t say anything about it. We will see where I am at the end of the summer. Nothing has been finalised yet."
The most recent report in the Barcelona-based Mundo Deportivo state that De Ligt has reportedly doubts over the potential Camp Nou move. Apparently, he wants assurances he is going to be a regular player right from the start. Right now there are three world-class centre-backs at Barca, namely Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet.
Moreover, with the possibility of Antoine Griezmann's €120million arrival, Barcelona may simply lack funds to spend another €70-80 million on De Ligt. That's why we've asked our users whether it would be affordable to get both superstars.
In any case, our users put De Ligt first. Agree?
