Huge milestone for Alba: Copa final will be his 300th game as a Blaugrana
- Since 2012, Alba has scored 15 goals and provided 51 assists for Barca.
- The left-back is currently irreplaceable for the Catalans.
- This Saturday, he is set to play his 300th game as a Blaugrana.
Jordi Alba is one of the most important Barcelona players. Moreover, he is simply irreplaceable given there is no other first-team left-back capable of occupying his position and delivering the high-level performances. Since 2012, Alba has contributed to 66 goals with 15 goals and 51 assists. He has formed a particular understanding with Leo Messi.
And now Alba is set to play his 300th game as Blaugrana which coincided with the Catalans' ultimate game of the 2018/2019 campaign, the Copa del Rey final against his former club Valencia staged at Real Betis' Benito Villamarin stadium. The match takes place this Saturday, May 25; kick-off is at 21:00 CET.
This season Alba has scored three goals and provided 15 assists in 53 matches in all competitions. The 30-year-old has recently renewed his Barca contract which will now expire in 2024. The left-back has a hefty €500million release clause.
Alba wasn't at his best in the infamous 4-0 Anfield defeat earlier in May. He even earned some backlash from the Barcelona fans after praising the under-fire boss, Ernesto Valverde. He said, as quoted by ESPN:
"We are delighted with him [Valverde]. Before Anfield, we were the best in the world and one day after no one is worth anything, we're old, we need to bring in replacements... I hope the boss continues. He's given me life."
This statement prompted some Barca fans to suggest that Alba is not being entirely objective here, as he has thrived in the team ever since the Basque's arrival.
