Just 21 goals this season: has Griezmann already surpassed his best?
- The Frenchman is heavily linked with the Barca move after announcing his Atleti exit.
- However, the 2018/2019 campaign was the poorest in his Atleti career.
- Never before he scored fewer than 25 goals in all competitions.
Last week, Antoine Griezmann surprised the whole world as he announced his Atletico Madrid exit. The French striker has recently scooped the Europa League, the UEFA Supercup and the most precious World Cup trophy, however, his club's struggles have apparently forced him to seek for new adventures.
Barcelona are believed to be the main contenders to land Griezmann whose release clause drops down to 120 million euros in July.
The 28-year-old could play at the wings as a solo striker which would make him a great signing for the Catalan giants who are often too much dependent on Lionel Messi alone. However, there are talks the Frenchman has already surpassed his best as the 2018/2019 season was his poorest in terms of the goals scored. Let's take a look at his numbers:
Since his move in 2014, Griezmann has become Atletico Madrid's best-ever goalscorer for every season. He is currently the all-time fifth-best Atleti's goalscorer with 133 goals in all competitions. How many goals did he score in each of the campaigns as a Rojiblanco?

2014/2015: Griezmann was signed in order to cover up Diego Costa's departure. The Frenchman did well as he scored 25 goals from 111 shots in 53 games which made his conversion rate up to 22.5%.
2015/2016: Griezmann enjoyed his most prolific campaign as a Rojiblanco. He netted 32 goals but missed the crucial penalty in the Champions League final which saw Atleti losing to their city rivals Real Madrid twice in just three years.
2016/2017: Griezmann profited from the arrival of Kevin Gameiro. He scored 26 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions. Nevertheless, it didn't help Atleti to secure any trophy.
2017/2018: Griezmann would possibly name this season as his overall best. With 29 goals and 13 assists, the Frenchman scooped the much-desired Europa League trophy and finished second in La Liga. He would later add the World Cup trophy to his collection.
2018/2019: After a brilliant campaign, a downfall comes. Griezmann only managed 21 goals in all competitions and was unable to help his side against Juventus in the Champions League or against Barcelona in the La Liga title race. Perhaps, he has surpassed his best? Or does he simply need a change of scenery?
