Valverde reveals his expectations for Barca 'exciting' new signings
- Valverde predicts all three Barca signing to contribute a lot to Barca success next season.
- He sees de Jong as a project for the future, who at the same time already is a quality footballer.
- Griezmann is 'more settled and more experienced' and thus should deliver immediate impact.
- As for Neto, he is 'ideal' to work with ter Stegen.
On Monday, July 17, Barcelona have officially started their pre-season and Frenkie de Jong, Antoine Griezmann and Neto - Barca new signings so far during this transfer window - has been with the team from the very first minute of training.
Thus, Barca head coach Ernesto Valverde has already been able to create a first impression of the new signings. He has told Barcelona media team as quoted by Marca:
"Last season [De Jong] played at a great level, like Ajax did. He is a footballer who will give freshness to the midfield and he is a project for the future, because he is a quality footballer who has many years of football ahead and who has our style of play."
On Griezmann the Basque specialist added:
"He is a footballer with experience in La Liga and in that aspect, he is more settled than De Jong. He is fast, plays well into space and he is a good finisher.
"We trust him a lot, we know what this type of player is worth and we expect immediate performance."
Finally, the Barcelona boss has expressed his opinion on goalkeeper Neto who should replace Cillessen as Barca second goalkeeper:
"He will bring safety between the goalposts," he noted. "He is an experienced goalkeeper and the ideal player to work with Ter Stegen."
The team will leave for the Asian tour on July 28. In Japan, they are set to play Chelsea and Iniesta's current club Vissel Kobe. In total, Barca intend to take 23 players for the tour, with six additions from Barcelona B, Riqui Puig being one of them.
