De Ligt claims choosing Juventus over Barca was a matter of feelings
- Matthijs has been recently presented as Juve's new signing.
- The 19-year-old had been linked with Barca and PSG before.
- De Ligt claims he felt more connection to Juve when choosing his next destination.
After being officially announced as a new Juventus player, Matthijs De Ligt was presented at the Italians' stadium. In the press conference, the 19-year-old addressed the earlier reports linking him with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain and explained why he ended up joining the Serie A team:
"It was a question of feeling," said De Ligt.
"I felt more of a connection with Juventus, I felt it from the first moment. I don't deny it's been a long process but the defensive tradition in Italy and Juve's huge will to sign me were key factors."
The centre-back also opened up on Cristiano Ronaldo's comments urging him to sign with Juve and how much it influenced his decision:
"In that moment I hadn't taken a decision. I had a preference but I wanted to wait until after the final. To see how Cristiano Ronaldo came up to me and said those words was a pleasure, but not determining in my decision."
De Ligt has signed a five-year deal with Juventus. The total transfer fee of this deal is said to be 75 million euros plus a further €10,5million in add-ons, just as Ajax wanted. Previously, Juventus wanted to lower the price despite having agreed on the personal terms with the player.
