RMC Sport: Abidal contacts Lyon over Fekir transfer
- Nabil has only one more year left of contract and is set to leave Lyon this summer.
- Abidal has reportedly contacted the French club to enquire about the forward's availability.
- The 26-year-old is reportedly in talks with Betis over a possible transfer.
According to highly-credible French source RMC Sport, Barcelona's technical secretary Eric Abidal has recently contacted Lyon to enquire about a possible transfer of Nabil Fekir. The ex-Blaugrana left-back is known to be a huge fan of French players and it should come as a big surprise that Fekir entered Barca's watchlist.
The 26-year-old is said to be open to a summer exit. His contract with the Ligue 1 team expires next year and despite being offered a renewal, Nabil is set to leave. Last summer, the French international was close to agreeing terms with Liverpool but the negotiations fell through at the last moment.
Earlier, Daily Mirror reported that the forward was in talks with Real Betis over a £26m move, while new Lyon boss Sylvinho confirmed that the Frenchman is very close to leaving the club:
"It is likely that he will leave, he is in the negotiation stage," Sylvinho said.
"For him and the club's good, I hope it will be resolved as quickly as possible."
"He is a wonderful player, a very high-level footballer, just seeing him drive the ball to train is a joy, and I take this opportunity to publicly wish him a happy birthday. Of course, we will miss him."
Despite his mind being far away from Lyon, Fekir had a decent 2018/19 campaign. The 25-year-old made 39 appearances across all competitions, registering 12 goals and 9 assists. The winger's ability to perform on the highest level should not be doubted either as Nabil contributed to 5 goals in 6 Champions League games.
