Barcelona are set to start their pre-season by taking on Chelsea and Iniesta's current club Vissel Kobe with both matches taking place in Japan. Ahead of the planned matches, the squad together with president Josep Maria Bartomeu travelled to Tokyo where they started by attending an event organized by Rakuten, the tour's sponsor.
At the event, Bartomeu shared his enthusiasm about the upcoming mini-tournament:
"Starting against Chelsea in the Rakuten Cup will be an honour. I hope the tournament will be very successful. I'm glad that Griezmann's first match, De Jong and Neto, the debut one, is in Japan," he said.
"Good luck to Lampard, he is a legend and a great figure of Chelsea.
"We appreciate the invitation of Mikitani [Vissel Kobe's owner]. We will play a match against Chelsea, which is always a great confrontation and with which we have experienced exciting matches in the past. We are happy that the matches are played in front of Japanese fans because our relationship with Japan is not only sporting but also architectural, as will be seen in the new Camp Nou."
"They [Barca and Chelsea] are great clubs that represent big leagues. Barça is one of the leaders in the world of football and for me, as the owner of Vissel Kobe, I am happy to host you. " Mikitani added
"It generates a lot of expectation," he added.
