Messi-fever in Japan: 80% of the sold jerseys are of Barca's captain
- Barca have opened a temporary store in Tokyo, Japan ahead of the pre-season tour.
- Out of all shirts sold, 80% bear Messi on the back.
- Besides Leo, the two most popular players are Suarez and Pique.
Is this really a surprise? Leo Messi is by far Barcelona's most popular player and our Japanese fans show the same excitement about the captain. Although the 32-year-old is still on holiday and won't take part in the pre-season tour, 80 out of every 100 shirts sold at Barca's temporary store in Tokyo are of the Argentine.
The store opened ahead of Blaugrana's Japan tour, as the team is set to take on Chelsea and Andres Iniesta's current club Vissel Kobe. The 'pop up' store is set to be closed on August 4, meaning that the Japanese supporters have limited time to buy Barca merchandise.
Besides Messi, the two other most popular shirt choices are Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique. Interestingly enough, there is also an 'Abe 27' shirt available. The Japanese younger signed with Barcelona B earlier this summer and Ernesto Valverde included him in the pre-season squad.
Meanwhile, Antoine Griezmann and Frenkie de Jong shirts are said to be not as popular. The two players still have to prove themselves at Camp Nou.
