Griezmann: 'I don't mind my position so long as I'm on the pitch'
- The Frenchman lasted for just 45 minutes in 2-1 Chelsea friendly defeat.
- He linked up perfectly with fellow countryman Ousmane Dembele in the attack.
- Griezmann insists he can play at any position upfront.
Even though he only lasted for 45 minutes, Antoine Griezmann has managed to impress on his Barcelona debut. The Frenchman started the disappointing 2-1 Chelsea defeat from the very first minutes and was substituted after the break.
In fact, Griezmann could have left the pitch earlier as he was clearly hurt after a nasty foul from Jorginho. Luckily, he managed to continue.
Ernesto Valverde deployed a 4-2-2 formation which saw Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele both up front. It was a bit difficult for them, however, the first signs of their link-up play are rather optimistic. Still, it remains to be seen which exact position the 28-year-old is going to occupy next season.
Griezmann says after the game, as quoted by Marca: "I can play in any position up front. I don't mind my position so long as I'm on the pitch. I'd rather be on the pitch than on the bench. I have to learn and make movements to help my teammates."
Griezmann has recently revealed he is looking forward to meeting Leo Messi who is still on holidays after the Copa America exploits.
There are various options on how to integrate Griezmann into the star-studded Blaugrana attack. The Frenchman's versatility allows him to play on both flanks. However, he feels the most comfortable as a second striker. Perhaps, Ernesto Valverde could switch to the 4-2-3-1 formation.
