Mundo Deportivo: Xavi allegedly wants Puig to join Al-Sadd on loan
- The youngster's childhood hero seems to be particularly interested in his services.
- However, Puig is said to be determined to stay at Barca B and improve.
- Last season, he made three appearances for the seniors.
A sensational offer has reportedly arrived for Barcelona promising youngster Riqui Puig. According to Catalan top source Mundo Deportivo, the 19-year-old is particularly wanted by Al-Sadd new head coach, Puig's childhood hero Xavi Hernandez. Apparently, the legendary midfielder would like to take the Barcelona B rising star on a loan deal.
However, Puig is said to be unfazed by this perfect opportunity to shine under his idol's command. Mundo Deportivo insist the 19-year-old is determined to stay at the Blaugrana reserves' team to improve and hope for yet another first-team appearance. Last season, for example, Puig took part in three games for the seniors.
Puig impressed a lot during the 2-1 Chelsea defeat on Tuesday. He brought the much-needed control to the midfield. However, he stated after the game he would prefer staying with the reserves for a while. Diario Sport quote him as saying: "I'm a more mature player now. I'm still a Barca B player and I'm here to grow. Older players help me a lot."
Given Barcelona's abundance in the midfield, it would be really difficult for Riqui Puig to make a breakthrough into the Blaugrana first team. There are currently nine seniors who are capable of playing in the midfield, including this summer's €75million arrival Frenkie de Jong.
