Atleti chief Cerezo opens up on Griezmann's exit: I wish they will love him the same way we did
- It seems that the Rojiblancos president has forgiven the Frenchman.
- He says: "The only thing that I wish Griezmann is that where he goes to play, he will be treated just as we treated him here."
- Nevertheless, Cerezo also appears to be firm in his stance to bring Barca to the courtroom over Griezmann's transfer fee.
Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo gives an exclusive interview to Marca as he discusses his club's targets for the upcoming campaign in light of the turbulent summer. No wonder the controversial subject of Antoine Griezmann's transfer to FC Barcelona is also brought on. That's what Cerezo has to say:
"He decided to play for another team and we learned recently which team he wanted to play for. He had thought about it and he did it that way. The only thing that I wish Griezmann is that where he goes to play, he will be treated just as we treated him here and that they will love him the same way he was loved here."
However, Cerezo refuses to provide any more updates on the infamous court case issue as this whole business is 'only ours and Barcelona's concern'. Still, the Atleti boss remains firm in their stance to get the things 'clear and done' with the Catalan giants over the Griezmann transfer.
What's the matter about Griezmann? Let us remind you:
Antoine Griezmann was confirmed as an FC Barcelona new player almost two weeks ago. The Catalans paid his €120million release clause and the Frenchman was free to leave Atletico Madrid and sign a five-year deal with Barca.
However, the story doesn't end here. Right after Griezmann's transfer was confirmed, the Rojiblancos issued an official statement on this move. They insisted they would dispute the transfer validity in court. They demand the Catalan giants to pay Griezmann's release clause in full as it was still set at 200 million euros when they allegedly made the first contact over the transfer.
Moreover, La Liga boss Javier Tebas has recently confirmed that the Rojiblancos have asked him to block Griezmann's license to play for FC Barcelona.
