OFFICIAL: Kluivert appointed as new Director of Youth Football
- The Dutchman will be the new head of the La Masia Academy.
- He has signed a two-year contract with Barca.
- Curiously, his son Shane is currently enlisted in the Blaugrana youth side.
Now it's official! FC Barcelona media confirm Patrick Kluivert's appointment as the club's new Director of Youth Football. The Blaugrana legend returns to the Camp Nou stadium in a new role. He is now set to take over at the La Masia Academy. Kluivert has signed a two-year deal with the club.
Previously, Diario Sport particularly emphasized on Kluivert's status of a 'charismatic leader' and his close ties with Frenkie De Jong. Curiously, Kluiverts son Shane has already been enlisted in the Blaugrana Academy.
Kluivert's appointment is another part of the quite clear revolution within the Blaugrana boardroom. Earlier this summer, Barca have already ended their association with Jordi Mestre and Guillermo Amor. Pep Segura's highly expected resignation is said to arrive in the coming hours.
Meanwhile, Barca's current sporting director Eric Abidal is alleged to be the next candidate to replace Segura as the club's general manager. Legendary goalkeeper Victor Valdes has already signed a one-year contract with the club. He has been appointed as the Juvenil A head coach.
As for Kluivert, he used to work as Clarence Seedorf's assistant at Cameroon national team. He was dismissed following the African giants' disappointing elimination in Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16.
Previously, the 43-year-old has worked as director of football at Paris Saint-Germain, youth coach at Ajax and Twente as well as an assistant coach at the Dutch national team, Brisbane Roar, AZ and others. Kluivert even worked as head coach at the Curacao national football team.
As a player, Kluivert scored 145 goals in 308 matches for FC Barcelona between 1998 and 2004.
