Revealed: Alves calls Barca asking for return
- The defender informed Bartomeu of his desire to come back a few weeks ago, Sport report.
- However, this proposition has eventually declined by the club's board.
- Alves is still heavily linked with Guardiola reunion at Manchester City.
A huge rumour has emerged in the Barcelona-based newspaper Diario Sport. Apparently, Dani Alves was trying to orchestrate his transfer back at the Camp Nou stadium a few weeks ago. They insist the Brazilian even personally called the Blaugrana president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, to inform the club of his desire to return.
However, Alves' alleged call hasn't made the necessary impact. Sport continue that Bartomeu discussed the possibility of bringing the right-back at Barcelona, however, this proposition has been declined. Even though the Catalans were considering offloading Nelson Semedo for 50 million euros back then, signing the 36-year-old on a free deal was out of the question, as per the same source.
Dani Alves' contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired on June 30 and he is looking for a new club. Right now, the Manchester City move seems to be the likeliest option. Moreover, other Premier League clubs are said to be interested in the defender as well.
The 36-year-old seems to be better with age, winning his 40th major football title, this time with his national team at Copa America. Alves still amazes football fans with his work rate and the ability to sharpen the attacking line.
Dani Alves spent eight years at Barcelona. Between 2008 and 2016, he won three Champions League trophies. Take look at his best Blaugrana goals:
