Iniesta would be 'happy' if Rakitic stays at Barca
- The Croatian is heavily linked with a move outside the Camp Nou stadium.
- However, he receives support from his former Blaugrana captain.
- Iniesta says: "I don't know if he is untransferable, but I know he is happy and wants to stay at Barca."
Ivan Rakitic scored Barcelona only goal of the disappointing 2-1 defeat in the pre-season friendly against Chelsea on Tuesday's afternoon. However, the Croatian could not be within the Blaugrana ranks when the 2019/2020 season officially kicks off.
The veteran midfielder could be offloaded given the Catalans' abundance in the midfield and the club's necessity to raise funds after this summer's big-money arrivals.
With the most recent reports indicating that Rakitic is set to leave Barcelona this summer, the Croatian suddenly receives support from his former teammate, Andres Iniesta. The legendary captain reunites with his ex-teammates ahead of Saturday's friendly between Barcelona and Vissel Kobe.
In his exclusive interview with Marca, Iniesta says on Rakitic's future: "I don't know if he is untransferable, but I know he is happy and wants to stay at Barca. I hope he can [stay at the club] and continue to perform as before. I would be happy for him."
By the way, Ernesto Valverde was always behind Rakitic who is undoubtedly one of his favourites. However, this time, even the coach believes his Barcelona time may come to an end. He says straight after the Chelsea defeat, as quoted by Cadena Cope: "Rakitic has been an important player, I don't know if he will be this season. New players are coming and he will have to win his place."
