Sport: Barca allegedly identify priority signing for left-back
- The Catalans have veen linked with several names to replace Jordi Alba.
- Now Diario Sport name Betis' Junior Firpo as their No.1 target.
- Barca hope to land him for just €15-20million.
- Otherwise, they are set to focus on Augsburg's Philipp Max instead.
Barcelona are still looking for an experienced left-back who could potentially cover up for indispensable Jordi Alba. There are still plenty of names emerging in the Spanish and Catalan press.
And now the Catalan top source Diario Sport reveal the number one candidate for the left-back position. Allegedly, it is going to be Real Betis' Junior Firpo. The news outlet even put the Dominican on the cover of their Friday's edition. The headline read 'Priority Junior'.
Moreover, Sport believe Firpo could be signed for just 15-20 million euros even though his release clause is set at 50 million euros. Moreover, famous transfer experts, Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca di Marzio, have recently reported that Firpo is 'very close' to the Blaugrana move.
Still, the uncertainty about the aforementioned clause, the defender's worrying injury history and his long-term deal with Betis which expires in the summer of 2023 may force the Catalans to look for a proper left-back elsewhere.
Apart from Firpo and Max, Barcelona are said to be heavily interested in Bayern Munich's star David Alaba. However, Sport insist that the Austrian has been discarded. Still, it's worth looking at this statistical comparisons of Firpo and Alaba, provided by Tribuna.com:
