Firpo 'proud' to attract Barca's interest
- The Real Betis left-back is said to be the main candidate to replace Jordi Alba.
- He says on his future: 'That it is a compliment and a source of pride to be linked to important clubs such as Barcelona.'
- However, the 22-year-old insists he is completely focused on Betis.
Barcelona are still looking for an experienced left-back who could potentially cover up for indispensable Jordi Alba. Various names are mentioned, including Augsburg' Philipp Max, Real Betis' Junior Firpo and Bayern Munich's David Alaba.
Firpo remains the likeliest candidate to strengthen the left-back position. Ernesto Valverde is said to be pushing for his signing due to the Dominican's La Liga experience. But what does the 22-year-old think about the interest from the Catalan giants? That's what he says, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo:
"I’m not unsettled. That news is coming out and the truth is that it is a compliment and a source of pride to be linked to important clubs such as Barcelona. But I am focused on Betis because it is my club and I also have huge gratitude because they have given me everything. I think it’s a sign that I’m doing things right. I think I’m in a great club and in a great team and that has helped me a lot."
Firpo was involved in the bizarre incident as his tweets insulting Lionel Messi dating back to 2012. However, the 22-year-old has recently admitted he is ready to apologize for what he said when he was just a kid.
