L'Equipe: Arsenal could reignite interest in Umtiti
- His name has been reportedly mentioned in light of the Gunners' hunt for a centre-back.
- They were linked with the Frenchman in June.
- Due to Arsenal's financial limitations, Umtiti could only join them on a loan deal.
According to highly reputable L'Equipe, Arsenal are considering the possibility of revisiting one of their transfer targets earlier in the summer - Samuel Umtiti. The French top source believe his name has been mentioned during the Gunners' frantic hunt for a centre-back.
Arsenal want to bring in a new centre-back to bolster their options at the back but it looks unlikely that Unai Emery will get either Dayot Upamecano or Daniele Rugani due to the club failing to negotiate preferable terms.
Because of this, they could go back in for the Umtiti who they were heavily linked with back in June. Due to a restricted budget, the deal would be a loan, possibly with an option to buy. It should be particularly noted that the Premier League transfer window is shutting down TODAY, on Thursday, August 8. The deadline is at 18:00 CET.
Umtiti was struggling to make an impact last season as he only made 15 appearances in all competitions. The Frenchman was hit with a neverending knee injury nightmare. There were talks that Barcelona could consider offloading the player to balance the books and raise money for the potential Neymar move.
Umtiti completed the full 90 minutes against Napoli on Thursday's morning. He didn't look much reliable as he scored a disappointing own goal shortly before the break.
