Cristiano asks Messi out: 'We've never had dinner together but I don't see why we can't in the future'
- He says: "I have no doubt that Messi has made me a better player."
- Ronaldo continues: When I am winning trophies it must sting him."
- However, Cristiano doesn't believe their rivalry is unique as he compares other famous sporting duos.
"I have no doubt that Messi has made me a better player and vice-versa. When I am winning trophies it must sting him and it's the same for me when he wins. I really admire the career he [Messi] has had and from his side, he has already talked of the disappointment when I left Spain because it was a rivalry that he appreciated."
Ronaldo admits, however, their rivalry is not one of its kind: "It's a good rivalry but it's not unique -- Michael Jordan had rivalries in basketball, there was Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost in Formula 1. The thing they all had in common is that they were healthy rivalries."
Cristiano finishes up in a somewhat bizarre manner as he explicitly invites Messi for dinner: "We've never had dinner together but I don't see why we can't in the future. I don't see a problem with that."
Both Messi and Ronaldo are nominated for the 2018-2019 Champions League Striker of the Season award. Last season, Messi became both La Liga and Champions League top scorer 36 and 12 goals respectively. As for Ronaldo, he only managed to score 28 goals following his sensational Juventus move.
