Sport: Barca and Juve prepare Rakitic-Can swap
- The Catalans reportedly consider accepting the Bianconeri's proposal.
- However, the sides cannot agree on the transfer fees and wages yet.
- Barca already have plenty of midfielders which makes a swap deal a rather odd decision.
What does the future hold for Ivan Rakitic? On Thursday, it was reported by Madrid-based Marca that he is certain to stay at Barcelona. However, Catalan top source Diario Sport now claim otherwise. They believe Barca are seriously considering swapping the Croatian for Juventus' midfielder Emre Can, something the Bianconeri have recently proposed them to.
However, the alleged deal is still far from being realized. The sides reportedly cannot agree on the transfer fee and even wages. Rakitic is said to demand a huge salary, something Juve are unable to afford. Moreover, Barcelona value their player highlier that Emre Can.
Sport also insist Rakitic isn't so far from Barcelona departure as it has been reported earlier. Apparently, the Catalans could agree on letting him leave if a suitable offer arrives. However, it hasn't been the case yet despite alleged bids from Inter and Manchester United.
As for Emre Can, he is a 25-year-old defensive midfielder. The German used to play for Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Liverpool. Last season, he scored four goals in 37 appearances for Juventus in all competitions.
Still, it seems rather strange for Barcelona to swap one midfielder for another given their current abundance in this area. Carles Alena, Sergi Roberto, Frenkie de Jong and Arthur are all fighting for the vacant spots in the midfield. That's why Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal have both been linked with potential departures.
