Coutinho's Bayern debut gets unnoticed because of Lewandowski's masterclass
- The Brazilian lasted for about 30 minutes but failed to overshadow the Pole's hattrick.
- He says on his first-ever Bundesliga appearance: "I've only been here three or four days and I'm sure I have to improve. I will work hard."
- Previously, Bayern coach Kovac admitted that Coutinho was lacking match fitness.
Philippe Coutinho has made his Bundesliga debut with Bayern Munich. The Brazilian entered the pitch close to the hour-mark of their away game at Schalke. He didn't get much noticed, though. The midfielder didn't provide much danger.
However, it would be difficult for Coutinho to steal the show from Robert Lewandowski. The Polish striker scored a hattrick as Bayern won 3-0. The Bavarians have now scored five goals across two Bundesliga matches. All of them have been netted by Lewandowski.
Coutinho appears to be happy with his Bundesliga debut nonetheless. Bayern official media quote him as saying after the win: "I'm very happy about my debut. We won, so it was a nice evening. The first impressions are very good. The club is huge, has great possibilities. The football is very intense here. I've only been here three or four days and I'm sure I have to improve. I will work hard."
Before the game, the coach, Nico Kovac, admitted that Coutinho was lacking match fitness. After the match, however, Kovac found some positive words for the newcomer: "I'm extremely satisfied with his performance today."
In case you have forgotten, Coutinho joined Bayern on an €8,5million season-long loan deal last week. The Bavarians are able to sign him on a permanent basis for €120 million euros until July 2020.
