De Jong: 'At Barca, you need to play beautiful football, because it’s part of the club'
- The midfielder describes the similarities between Barca and Ajax.
- He says: 'When you play for these teams, you need to play the Cruyff way.'
Frenkie de Jong gives an exclusive interview to La Vanguardia as he once again discusses the main similarities between Barcelona and Ajax. That's what he says:
"The DNA of Barca is similar to Ajax. I think we owe the fans that we play beautiful football and that we win titles. But I think that when you play for Barcelona/Ajax you need to play the Cruyff way. You need to play beautiful football, because it’s part of the club."
De Jong also recalls how the people react when they see him with the ball in defence.
"When I have the ball in defence a lot of people tell me they are nervous, or they said 'just shoot the ball away!'. But most of the time it’s better to play football and beat the pressure. And then you have a lot of space after the pressure for our attackers."
De Jong is particularly renowned for his aspirations to perfection. He has recently revealed he wants to improve his long-range passing, shooting and goalscoring abilities. In total, it seems the 22-year-old wants to become a fully complete footballer which is admirable, to say the least.
De Jong's perfectionism was particularly noticed during Barcelona's flight back to the Catalan capital after the 4-0 Napoli win. Unlike his teammates, the Dutchman wasn't playing any games or watching any TV series. Instead, he was reviewing the highlights of the game.
