OFFICIAL: Barcelona unveil Johan Cruyff statue
- Estadi Johan Cruyff will be opened on Tuesday.
- A giant sculpture dedicated to the maestro has been unveiled outside Camp Nou.
- President Bartomeu believes it should be a reminder of what the Dutch icon did for the club.
A colossal 3.5 meters and 1,500 kilos of weight statue of Johan Cruyff has been unveiled outside Camp Nou.
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has opened up on the iconic moment:
"This statue shall be a permanent reminder of Johan Cruyff and what he represents. Johan Cruyff is a very important part of our history, essence and sentiment."
The sculpture is made of bronze and has been created by Corry Ammerlaan van Niekerk. The Dutch artist has dedicated four months of hard work to finish the masterpiece in time.
Furthermore, Estadi Johan Cruyff is going to be finally opened to the public on Tuesday. It will replace the current Miniestadi, which will be demolished to make way for the New Palau Blaugrana.
On the inauguration day, the ground will host a Friday clash between Barcelona and Ajax U19 teams.
