'This will go down to history': how media react to Johan Cruyff Stadium opener
- The new Juvenil A stadium is now officially opened.
- Barca's women team will also play their home games there.
- In a friendly opener which was attended by several Barca players, Ajax U-19 defeated Juvenil A 2-0.
The new Johan Cruyff Stadium was opened in front of Barcelona officials, players and lots of fans who came to Cuitat Esportiva to celebrate the event.
This is how the stadium was built.
The symbolic first touch of the ball was made by Johan Cruyff's son Jordi who also played for FC Barcelona back in 1994-1996. Currently, Jordi trains Chinese side Chongqing Dangdai Lifan.
And is this how the stadium looks like from the inside.
Unfortunately, Victor Valdes's Juvenil A side didn't manage to come away victorious. Ajax were slightly stronger in the friendly and finished the game winning 2-0.
Here's what Barca president Josep Bartomeu wrote after the game came to an end.
"This evening we round off two historic days for Barca fans; yesterday, the unveiling of the statue in memory of Johan Cruyff and today with the opening of the stadium that bears his name, the first piece of the Espai Barca."
Lionel Messi (via Instagram):
"Very important day at FC Barcelona. The youth players will play in a stadium with the name of Johan Cruyff, a legend that marked the history of our club. Congratulations to the Cruyff family!"
Let's hope that this place will boost our La Masia factory and we'll see lots of promising starlets in the first team soon!
