Why Barca are actually lucky to miss out on Neymar
The forward stays at PSG after the clubs were unable to reach an agreement. Tribuna.com discuss three major reasons why this is good news for Barcelona.
Calmness and stability are not the things usually associated with Neymar. He has made two moves prior to this summer - from Santos to Barcelona and from Barcelona to PSG. Both transfers were accompanied by countless rumours and led to disputes between fans and even a couple of legal cases.
Apart from that, Neymar tends to get in trouble even when not plotting a move to another team. For example, he was accused of rape by Brazilian model Najila Trindade and became a subject of Spanish tax authorities’ investigation last year. Do we need a player like this even if he scores 30 goals per season?
Recent health issues
Neymar wasn’t noticeably injury-prone at Barcelona but his hospital bills at PSG are rather worrisome. The forward has only missed 29 games during the four years spent at Camp Nou and has already sat out 51 in France.
PSG doctors admitted to La Parisien that Neymar’s right foot might become a never-ending problem for the Brazilian. “The player’s injury could reoccur if he plays games at the highest level,” the specialists claim.
Barca have already invested a hefty sum into a forward who has already reached his prime. The 28-year-old Antoine Griezmann arrived this summer for 120 million euros forcing the club to spend a huge part of their summer transfer budget.
Neymar will turn 30 in 2,5 years. Knowing his injury history and lack of professional attitude (à la Cristiano Ronaldo) it is difficult to imagine Barca finding a Juventus to sell the Brazilian before his retirement.
All in all, Barca have avoided a very risky transfer that might have cost the club millions of euros. Our squad looks powerful enough to compete for all three major trophies this season while another club will be dealing with Neymar’s inevitable shenanigans.
Do you agree? Were we right to stop pursuing Neymar?
