'People panic, I don’t': Frenkie de Jong promises to get better after slow start
- The 22-year-old admits he's not been playing as well as in the pre-season.
- The midfielder claims the La Liga football is very different from what he's used to.
- The Dutchman's not worried whatsoever as he knows what to do.
- To contribute a lot more with the ball & to be much more dominant is the plan.
In July, Frenkie de Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in a deal worth an initial €75m fee. As expected, the calm, collected and technically-gifted midfielder massively impressed in the pre-season.
However, the 22-year-old has not yet managed to provide the same level of performance in the Blaugrana's three La Liga fixtures so far despite playing almost every minute in those games.
Nevertheless, the Dutchman is by no means discouraged by such an average start to his Camp Nou career. Wise for his age Frenkie has told De Telegraaf:
"Things went well in pre-season, but I have to say I haven’t played my best game in the competitive fixtures.
"The football is very different from what I am used to. I had the fewest touches against Real Betis when usually it’s the other way around.
"People panic, I don’t. I’ve been a bit flat so far. I know I can contribute a lot more with the ball during the game. I can be a lot more dominant, so I don’t worry too much about it."
