Mundo Deportivo: Injured Umtiti back to Barcelona for further tests
- Samuel picked up an injury during his stint with France.
- Further tests will be carried out by Barca's medical staff.
- It's unclear whether the defender will be available for the next league game.
According to the latest report from Mundo Deportivo, Samuel Umtiti won't stay with the French national side but will instead return to Barcelona. The defender picked up an injury in training, the source claims the 25-year-old has a bruised right foot.
Further tests are expected in order to determine the seriousness of the injury. It remains unknown whether the centre-back will be available for the next La Liga match against Valencia.
Umtiti was out for France's latest match against Albania, which Les Bleus won 4-1. At his national team, just like at Barca, Samuel is behind Clement Lenglet in the pecking order. Umtiti lost his starting role at Barca and for the French national team after an injury-ridden 2018-19 season.
Ironically, the centre-back earned was initially out of France's squad for the two qualifying matches but got his call-up following the injury of Manchester City player Aymeric Laporte.
The centre-back is yet to play this season, as Ernesto Valverde left him on the bench in all three La Liga games so far. During a Joan Gamper trophy match against Arsenal, his blunder led to the Gunners' opening goal, and after that, he's not a preferable starting XI option for Ernesto Valverde.
The 25-year-old has got 6 injuries after joining the Catalans back in 2016. The recent one he got in November 2018 saw him out of the squad for several months.
