Umtiti on entering Neymar swap deal rumours: 'It made me laugh'
- The Catalans reportedly tried to lower the price on Neymar by offering players.
- According to reports, Umtiti could have been among the players to enter the deal.
- Samuel, however, denies the links.
- The Frenchman wants to continue at Barca.
According to various rumours from last summer, Barcelona planned to use Samuel Umtiti among other players in a swap deal to bring back Neymar. However, the deal never went through and the Brazilian ended up staying at Paris Saint-Germain.
In a recent interview to Canal Football Club, the Frenchman addressed the links:
"Exchange coin for Neymar? It's crazy. It made me laugh, I don't even have an answer to where it comes from," said the defender.
The 25-year-old also addressed the Arsenal links:
"Honestly, I don't know where this rumour with Arsenal came from: overnight, I received messages from my friends 'ah, so you are joining Arsenal?' I'm not, I'm sorry but I'm staying at Barcelona.
"Contacts with Arsenal? To be honest, I don't know if they had conversations with my agent, I just told him that I didn't care what was happening this summer and that it wasn't even necessary to talk to me about it. It was useless, I was going to have the same answer."
Finally, Umtiti explained what his real goals are:
"My dream as a child was to play for Barcelona. Last season was the most difficult of my career, especially in terms of injuries."
Unfortunately, the centre-back is once again out with an injury. The player had joined the French national side but had to return to Catalonia prematurely following a bruised leg. Further tests are needed until it becomes clear how serious the injury is.
So far this season, Ernesto Valverde has kept the Frenchman on the bench in every La Liga match, preferring Clement Lenglet over him.
