Former Barca president Gaspart: Messi doesn't like what's going on in the club
- Joan supposes that Messi put lots of warning signals in his recent interview.
- He also explains that the club couldn't sign Neymar because of PSG's extreme demands.
Lionel Messi's latest interview with Sport caused mixed reactions in Barca's fan-base.
The club's officials, particularly former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart, have shared their opinions on Lionel's words and what they actually mean.
"After every statement came a "but" and while the club might understand them as irrelevant, I think they are warnings that he doesn't like how the club is going," cautiously tells Gaspart.
However, the 74-year-old is convinced that the Argentinian doesn't want to instruct the club on the directions of its development.
"I know him well and I don't think his words were a challenge to the club because it's not his style," explains Joan.
Lionel Messi has recently admitted that he indeed wanted Neymar to sign for Barcelona last summer: "Yes, [I wanted him back]. Neymar is one of the best players in the world. I don't know [if the club did everything possible to re-sign Neymar]. I spoke with Ney and he told me he was desperate to come back."
Still, Gaspart focuses on PSG's financial demands which were extremely high, as per the former official.
"I know that Barcelona and the president tried to sign Neymar but PSG asked for €300 million and while Neymar is an exceptional player, as a matter of dignity, they couldn't do it."
