Gallardo opens up about Barcelona rumours
- The Argentine has been linked with a move to Barcelona.
- Gallardo insists, however, that he can't be distracted by rumours.
- Therefore, he has nothing to say on Barca's reported interest in him.
River Plate boss Marcelo Gallardo has been named among possible Ernesto Valverde's successors at Barcelona.
The Argentine specialist himself, however, remains calm despite the growing rumours.
"I can not let myself be carried away by these things. I have nothing to say about these rumours," he told CAT Radio (h/t Barcacentre).
The reports of Gallardo at Barcelona first appeared in October after a row of Barca's displeasing results under Ernesto Valverde. Following a defeat at Levante and a home draw against Slavia, the rumours emerged again, with the River coach reportedly being the main candidate to replace Valverde in December.
River Plate sports director Enzo Francescoli has recently explained that December is always crucial for Gallardo as he makes the decision on his future annually at the end of the year.
"Every year Gallardo makes an evaluation in December and then makes the decision to continue, but that is very personal of him and his workgroup. That's why you have to let things happen.
"I have nothing to clarify because I have no information to say that it is true, but if Gallardo receives something, I have no doubt that he will communicate it to me. Since I have nothing, I cannot take it as true."
After winning 2019 Recopa Sudamericana, Marcelo became the most successful Los Millonarios coach of all time with 10 titles. The Argentine is also the most successful coach at the international stage in the club's history, with a total of 7 international titles won.
