Valverde promises Firpo more opportunities going forward
- Valverde assures the media that he trusts Firpo.
- Junior wasn't in the squad against Levante because Valverde thought that Semedo would deal with the threat from Levante's fast players better.
- Barca coach says that the former Real Betis man will get other opportunities later in the season.
While previewing the clash against Celta, Valverde explained his choice citing the tactical decision as the main reason for the omission.
"We are happy with him [Firpo], what happened is that considering that Levante has fast players who had already hurt us the previous year, I opted for Semedo, who also gives us things playing on the left. I thought it was the best option," Valverde said (h/t BarcaTimes).
"Junior convinces me and possibly they are matches so that he has his opportunities," Barca boss concluded.
As a reminder, Valverde didn't tell that to Firpo himself that he is out of Levante squad despite travelling to Valencia with the team but sent his assistant Jon Aspiazu to tell the defender while unsuspecting Junior was chatting with Fati and Todibo. This manner of communication upset Firpo.
Barca board are also unhappy with the way the Basque specialist treats the full-back. The club signed the Spain international expecting him to be a reliable back-up for Alba but he has been barely used by the coach so far, despite the fact that the signing of the player from Betis was agreed with Valverde.
