'Messi will continue to be linked to Barca for life': Bartomeu adamant Leo will stay
- Messi's contract runs out in 2021.
- It includes a clause that allows the Argentine to leave for free in the summer.
- The Barcelona president believes Leo Messi will continue the remaining part of Barca regardless.
Messi's current deal at Barca runs out in 2021. It includes a clause that allows Lionel to leave for free at the end of the 2019/20 campaign. While Barcelona are preparing to cope with the imminent post-Messi era by landing top-profile players over the last few years, Barca president believes Messi will remain linked to his club one way or another.
"I have no doubt that after Messi finishes his career as a footballer he will remain linked to this club for the rest of his life," Bartomeu told Sky Sports.
"Firstly because he is the best player in the history of football and this is where he played. I doubt that anybody else will be able to match his achievements or his records.
"Or his talent, leadership and the supremacy he has in the world of football. So he will continue to be linked to Barca for life. Without a doubt."
Messi missed the start of this season through an injury. He returned to action in late September and contributed to 14 goals (9 goals, 5 assists) in 11 appearances across all competitions since then. Leo registered his first hat-trick of the current season on Saturday as Barca beat Celta Vigo 4-1 at Camp Nou.
Messi will forever be our legend:
