Barcelona reportedly search for new right-back, 2 Bundesliga stars on radar
- Barca want to sign a new first-choice right-back.
- They target Joshua Kimmich and Lukas Klostermann.
- Nelson Semedo remains a doubtful option for Barca's starting XI.
- Ernesto Valverde doesn't count on Moussa Wague as his replacement.
Barcelona are in search of a new first-choice right-back, Mundo Deportivo reports.
As per the source, the Catalans have decided to look for one in the Bundesliga. Joshua Kimmich (Bayern Munich) and Lukas Klostermann (Red Bull Leipzig) are the most realistic targets for now.
Joshua Kimmich has recently grown into a true leader of Bayern Munich. Despite being just 24 years of age, the German has made almost 200 appearances for the Bundesliga champions and registered about 50 assists since his first days at Allianz-Arena. His market value, however, may force Barca to spend big: as per Transfermarkt, his transfer cost is €70m. Another problem is that Kimmich is a player of two positions. These days, he's often used as a defensive midfielder rather than a right-back.
As for Lukas Klostermann, the 23-year-old has made 141 appearances for Red Bull Leipzig since the 2014/15 season, scoring 10 goals and making 10 assists. The German is a regular player for his side, however, he's not as influential as Kimmich at Bayern Munich which is reflected by his reported value: €30m and a contract which expires in less than two years.
Barca are supposedly worried about the number of right-backs at the club. Nelson Semedo hasn't yet deserved the status of an indisputable regular player for Barca, besides, he's often on the injury list. Sergi Roberto has finally proved himself as a midfielder while Moussa Wague is simply the one Valverde doesn't count on this season. Thus, we may see Barca going for an urgent purchase already this winter.
