AC Milan president on Caldara and Higuain arrivals: 'We're closer to our goal'
- Rossoneri back among the top teams
- Ex-Juve stars will shine in black and red stripes
New AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni said: "When we met here on July 21, I said that the goal of the new owners is to bring Milan back to the high levels. This operation goes precisely in that direction.
"If the signing of Caldara a sign for the future [the 24-year-old arrived on direct swap with Leonardo Bonucci]? This is an important signing for the journey that we have ahead of us, we have a lot of work to do and it will take a lot of hard work from all our players, but a signing like Caldara is incredibly important for our projects. He joins a defense which is mostly made up of young players.
"Having signed a star like Higuain is an important step towards our goal, an essential step. I’m confident he will do extremely well for Milan. Where can Higuain be placed amongst the top strikers at Milan? Well, in the last five years, since he came to Italy, Higuain has scored more goals than any other strikers in the country. And in terms of the games-played-goals-scored ratio, having a player like Higuain – as a President and as a fan [Scaroni is a life-long Milanista] – is great.
"If new directors will be joining the clubs? I don’t have any particular updates, but CEO is just a transitional role for me. A new CEO will soon be chosen, who can handle the situation full-time."
