Jamie Redknapp claims Naby Keita has necessary skillset to replace Coutinho
- The ex-Reds lists Keita's strengths, saying LFC lacked them in midfield last season
- Naby's discipline troubles could be an issue for the Reds, however
Ex-Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp picks newcomer Naby Keita as a player to watch next season in the Premier League. He reckons Keita could ensure Klopp's side will be more effective against top sides. The African star is a kind of a player that LFC have been missing last season:
"He's a little powerhouse — an all-action hero in midfield. Keita has a great touch, will make goals and score them. There is also devilment in his play and that could get him in trouble. We saw that last season when he was sent off four times.
"When Manchester United visit Anfield in December, I’m sure they’ll use every trick in the book to try to wind him up! But if he keeps his cool, he can be such an important player. The only time Liverpool missed Philippe Coutinho was against the more stubborn sides when they struggled to unlock the door.
"Keita and fellow arrival Fabinho can bring that guile to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield."
Klopp was delighted with the player during pre-season, saying he could cover different positions:
"I see him as an ‘8’, he can play ’10’ as well, maybe in the future he can play ‘6’ as well. At Leipzig, he played as a winger, that’s for sure not his best position but he can play it because he has the speed for it, he has the football intelligence for it. We see him as a creative No.8 playing the passes and making the runs with the ball.
"With the ball he has the same speed as without, you don’t have a lot of players with this quality. We know what he’s good in and we try to fit it into our game, but that should not be a big problem."
