Joe Gomez underwent surgery to assist his rehabilitation from a lower leg fracture sustained back on December 5 in the game against Burnley. After a successful operation, the centre-back took it to Instagram to send a message to the fans:
"Gutted to have suffered a setback in my rehab which resulted in the successful op I had today. It hurts massively not to be able to contribute towards the team on the pitch especially at a time like this... I’m doing all I can physically to come back stronger. Let’s get behind the boys tonight 🔴💪🏽"
The boss shared his concerns over the injury:
"It’s a blow for the boy and for us - because prior to the injury he was in such fantastic shape," Jurgen Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com on the issue. "But he is too valuable to take any risk with, both for our present and future, so we get this procedure done and he comes back when he’s ready. His attitude during this rehab has been outstanding but it just hasn’t healed as we’d have liked so we will make this intervention and then he will come back."
