Mirror: Van Dijk camp's alleged & truly priceless reaction to Barca approach revealed
- The Catalans have tried to figure out their chances of landing the Dutchman.
- The La Liga champions have been 'quickly given short shrift' by the centre-back's crew.
- The 28-year-old's agent team haven't bothered taking it for real.
According to the Mirror, Barcelona have tried their luck and enquired about the possibility of signing Virgil van Dijk this summer. The Dutchman's representatives have responded as briefly and resolutely as it stands, as per the source.
The outlet's chief football writer John Cross has opened up on the issue in his weekly column:
"Do not expect it to happen for a moment, but Barcelona made enquiries about whether Virgil van Dijk could be tempted to leave Liverpool.
"They were quickly given short shrift by the Dutch defender’s representatives. They did not bother taking it further."
Van Dijk enjoyed a sensational 2018/19 campaign with Liverpool. The Dutchman was named the PFA Premier League Player of the Year, helped the Reds to lift the Champions League trophy and has every chance of winning the Ballon d'Or.
In fact, if the 28-year-old is officially named the best player in the world, he will be the first defender to take hold of the award since Fabio Cannavaro back in 2006. The centre-back will also become the first Liverpool player to claim the most prestigious individual prize in the game since Michael Owen in 2001.
