Klopp on Naby Keita's progress: 'He looks completely different'
- Klopp expects Naby to step up the game in the upcoming campaign.
- His fitness, along with boys' readiness, provides a whole lot of different opportunities for Klopp.
- 'We expect a lot and he expects a lot and rightly so'.
Naby Keita has been a walking contradiction during last campaign. On the one hand, sometimes he produced bits of pure brilliance on the pitch but was unlucky to miss out on the huge part of the season due to injuries.
At the same time, for the most part, his performances haven't been quite convincing and his huge price tag along with honours coming with the No.8 Liverpool shirt have cautiously raised some eyebrows, just a bit.
But fortunately, Naby seems to enter the season with a completely different mindset and fitness level. And, apparently, Klopp is positive that the 24-year-old will deliver performances of the highest level during the upcoming campaign.
When answering the question about whether the upcoming campaign represents a ‘big opportunity’ for Naby he said: "For all of us and for him as well.
"He was unfortunately injured again after the Africa Cup of Nations so he is training now for two weeks.
"[There was] ups and downs last year: could train, could not train, could train, could not train so he still is building the 100 per cent fitness of course, but yes it’s not only for him, it’s for Ox the same - like a fresh start even when he had a couple more games before he got injured.
"But that’s really important, we have these boys in and it’s good. It’s a very long season, we talk about the first game and then will come up a couple of others and we have to be ready for all of them."
He said: "I was really happy when I saw how the influence or contribution was of especially Shaq and Naby and Adam, it looked really, really good because with Adam we have another player like this and Shaq was injured as well, so it’s really good that they are in a good way and that they really show that we have different options.
"That’s very important to us and for Naby of course. He looks completely different, this pre-season looks completely different. He was now only the last two weeks in but you could see already that he’s much more settled in the team: completely different body language and everything is different.
"We expect a lot and he expects a lot and rightly so."
