Select your favourite LFC's starting XI vs Chelsea from 3 options below. Leave your choice in the comments and explain your pick!
Despite Community Shield loss, Reds could still win a trophy early into the season as Jurgen Klopp's lads are set to battle against Chelsea for the 2019 UEFA Super Cup at Vodafone Park in Istanbul on Wednesday.
Alisson's injured, Keita's fate is yet to be discovered but still Klopp has a lot of options at his disposal. Moreover, he faces a rather unconventional team, to a certain extent, unpredictable one and yet prone to attacking with full force while pressing up high. Just what Klopp loves to see in his opponents.
With that in mind, we have created three variants of tomorrow's starting line-up for you to choose from.
Option 1- Minor tweaks from Norwich clash.
Basically almost the same starting line-up with the same disposition and the same players' tasks as we've witnessed on Friday on Premier League opener with minor tweaks that could bring huge difference on the pitch. Bench Origi for reportedly fully fit Mane, sub Gomez who wasn't particularly impressive against Norwich for more reliable Matip, obviously, add Adrian and voila! Set aside some flaws in defence it worked great against Norwich and there's a feeling it could work against Chelsea as well.
Option 2 - Let our new signing shine!
Starting Lallana in a game like this might seem ridiculous. However, one of our 'new signings', as per Klopp, might be quite useful in a new role Jurgen came up with for him during pre-season. Chelsea tend to press high leaving huge spaces behind, while enjoying extended possession, particularly in the central area, when attacking. And quite unfortunately for Lampard, the Blues have been failing to do all this with the required precision so far. And that's where Lallana might shine. He's absolutely brilliant both when pressing and when starting the attacks under pressure. Therefore, his abilities might be really crucial both defensive and offensive-wise, while Henderson and Milner will perform some more physical, workmanlike duties.
Option 3 - Attack, Attack, Attack!
Current Chelsea might be the perfect side to face with purely attacking mind-set. Henderson and Fabinho will be holding midfielders, while Salah, Mane and Ox will tear up the open spaces Lampard's side will certainly leave behind. We chose Ox instead of Origi because Alex is far superior when defending. Firmino will light up the necessary spark in the central area while constantly terrorizing the Blues' midfielders with his tireless pressing. Might work, don't you think?
