Ex-Spurs striker Bent backs Gomez to be regular starter both at Liverpool and at Three Lions
- Gomez did not feature against Bulgaria.
- Bent claims Gareth Southgate might start Joe against Kosovo.
- Darren is a huge admirer of the Reds defender.
- He will not be surprised if Gomez eventually becomes van Dijk's regular partner.
Despite Joe Gomez remained an unused substitute in England's 4-0 thrashing of Bulgaria, former Tottenham and Charlton striker Darren Bent believes Joe should be handed a start against Kosovo and feature more regularly after that.
He also believes Gomez should be Virgil van Dijk's permanent partner in the centre of Liverpool's defence.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent said: "It [Gomez starting against Kosovo] depends what shape he [Southgate] goes with. For me, if you look at the defenders, you'd probably have Maguire and Gomez [for Kosovo] because I really like Gomez, he's a real top-quality defender. Before he had that injury he was a big powerhouse and a big powerful presence.
"It doesn't surprise me that eventually, it'll be him and Van Dijk, week in and week out at Liverpool. He's that good."
