It's Shaqiri's birthday! So here are 6 reasons why we love our mighty power cube
Xherdan Shaqiri is turning 28 today and though he's been recently struggling with first-team opportunities it's hard not to love our Big Shaq. All the more because of the beautiful memories he brought us since his arrival at Anfield.
1. That debut
Few Reds have had their debuts for Liverpool against Manchester United and even fewer have scored such stunners. Yes, it was just a pre-season friendly but, come on, the Northwest derby is the Northwest derby - even if it's played in the USA.
2. Those set-pieces
Back during early stages of 18/19 season Big Shaq was constantly firing unstoppable shots from free-kicks pinpoint crosses from set-pieces, something he's a renowned master of. One of these shots even ended up in quite a crucial goal against Southampton - even though the ball found the net off Salah's foot as Xherdan hit the post. Still, that free-kick was truly mental.
3. That night at Anfield
Well, Big Shaq loves him some Red Devils. What a night that was. Shaqiri's introduction from the bench, his fascinating double, 3-1 win, 36 vs 6 shots stats, Mourinho being sacked. Xherdan will be long remembered for those Anfield heroics.
4. Those calves
A man never missed a leg day in his entire life, apparently. Those pumping, mile-wide calves should be Switzerland's national treasure!
5. That night at Anfield [x2]
Yes, Xherdan wasn't as impactful during that historic 4-0 comeback against Barcelona as, Wijnaldum or Origi, for instance. Still, he fought bravely alongside his Red comrades and, still, it was he who launched an assist on Gini's equaliser.
6. That confidence
The man hasn't started a game in months. The man misses out a huge opportunity to feature in Carabao Cup due to utterly frustrating minor injury. And yet, the man continues to train with utmost determination and focus. And yet, he claims himself to be one of the leaders of the current Liverpool side. You simply got to admire such confidence!
